After acquiring him from the New Orleans Saints in October, the Arizona Cardinals will be moving on from running back Adrian Peterson, according to 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station’s Mike Jurecki.

Peterson’s salary cap hit for the 2018 season would be $3.5 million, $2 million in base salary and the rest in the form of bonuses.

As part of the trade to acquire Peterson, the Cardinals will give the Saints a sixth-round pick in the upcoming NFL Draft.

Peterson appeared in six games in a Cardinals uniform, rushing for 448 yards and two touchdowns on 129 attempts. He also had nine receptions for 66 yards.

His season was cut short after he was placed on injured reserve due to a neck injury he suffered against the Jaguars in Week 12.

Peterson was acquired from the Saints in October for a conditional pick in hopes of boosting the Cardinals’ struggling run game since David Johnson broke his wrist in the first game of the season against the Detroit Lions.

Johnson will return at full health in 2018 under new head coach Steve Wilks and offensive coordinator Mike McCoy. Wilks is reportedly expected to bring in former Cardinals running backs coach Kirby Wilson for the same position.

As Wilks pieces his staff together, the Cardinals will turn their attention to finding a quarterback for the 2018 season.
