Brandin Cooks working to improve route running, timing with Goff

Few wide receivers in the NFL have been as fortunate as Brandin Cooks when it comes to the quarterbacks he’s played with. He started his career with Drew Brees, then went to Tom Brady, and last year, he was paired with Jared Goff – yet another Pro Bowl quarterback.

His stay with each team has been relatively short, but he’s building chemistry with Jared Goff in Los Angeles. This offseason, and specifically in organized team activities, Cooks is working on his timing with Goff in hopes of putting together a great 2019 season.

He’s focused on the little things right now, which he explained after Monday’s practice.

“For me specifically, my routes and that timing with Jared,” Cooks said of what he’s working on. “You can always have perfect timing out there when you’re throwing on air. But now we’ve got defenders out there, just continue to work on that and get better at that, so we can be the best we can possibly be.”

Cooks has reached (and lost) the Super Bowl in each of the past two seasons, once with the Patriots and once with the Rams. The ultimate goal is obviously to get back to the big game and hopefully win it, but Cooks isn’t looking too far ahead. He’s taking things slowly and focusing on what he can control in the immediate future.

“My goal is taking it one day at a time, focusing on my weaknesses and making them my strengths. And just being the best player I can be, being a great leader, and continuing to build those blocks,” Cooks said.
